Rats With Wings.

The U3A had a visit to Trinity House at the bottom of Leith Walk; I just missed the bus from the top so decided to walk down – the exercise would do me good – and took some documentary shots of the destruction of Saint James’ Centre as I passed. The Edinburgh Evening News claims that the shopping centre opened both in 1970 and 1976 with the latter date being supported by a photograph of it still under construction in 1975. Wikipedia takes the middle view and says it opened in 1973. My money is on the most recent date as I’m sure that Herself and I were well established as Scottish residents when it was completed.
 
Meanwhile, down at The Foot o' the Walk, there was this fellow wasting his hard earned assets on feeding the pigeons though, considering the gay abandon with which he is scattering his seed (and there would appear to be plenty more in his hold-all), his activities could be better described as “fly-tipping.” Little more than a mile away at Saint Margaret’s Loch in Holyrood Park, it has been known for a van to appear and “unload” sacks full of stale bread on the pretext of feeding the swans, a practice which causes the birds to suffer from malnutrition. At least this chap, although he may be causing harm, is providing a balanced diet.


Trinity House did not unduly impress me as a visitor attraction although it is a very worthwhile charity supporting the seafaring community.
