The scene of the crime

I went to Cramond today as part of my genealogical 'investigations'. Four generations of McAra's ( my dad's side) lived there. 
This is/was Cocklemill. Nowadays a cafe getting ready for the tourist season, but it used to be a grain mill in the early 1700s, then it was converted into an iron rolling and slitting mill, producing hops for barrels etc.
In 1810 however, it became a crime scene, when my 3 x great grandfather, Alexander, was killed there by his own brother James, in an argument over about who let the furnace go out!!!  James was subsequently tried at the High Court In Edinburgh and sent to Australia for life. He died 30 years later in Tasmania, having been pardoned.
You never know what you are going to find when you start delving into your family history.
