Magnolia

This is the whole of the magnolia tree, it was planted by the owners before last and as you can see, it's much too close to the house. I keep chopping bits off, as all it wants to do is reach for the sky as it's quite shaded by the huge plum tree to the left and the house to the right.
It would have looked fabulous right in the middle of the lawn, I wonder why they planted it 6" from a wall?
