A Fistful of Dollars
No, not the spaghetti western starring Clint Eastwood.
These are Sand Dollars and the largest one is about 25mm in diameter (or one inch in old money) - so you can tell that the smallest one is quite tiny.
I collected these when snorkelling in Thailand, and they are very fragile.
Sand Dollars are marine invertebrates and they are closely related to starfish, sea cucumbers and sea urchins. You can see the little stars on each one. They spend their lives on sandy sea floors at about 10 metres deep. They will use their spines to dig themselves into the sand to avoid predators.
I'm not sure if Tiny Tuesday is still going strong, but if so, here is my contribution for today.
I've since found out that it is, and it's TT94.
