Lines of connection

I remember as a child, as having a telephone and electricity became the norm, watching the lines that stretched from house to house proliferate. But I didn't notice them go.

The area I live in is a little shabby, not maintained and there are a number of these old connectors still attached to houses. I quite like them, they remind me that I am of a generation which used outside lavvies, on occasion; that had friends in houses lit by gaslight; that had to watch out for neighbours who might be listening in to the telephone party line; who had to ask the operator to book an international call.
