Mono Monday - Depth of Field
I tried one or two naturalistic shots with near objects being set against distant ones but had real problems coming up with a satisfactory composition. So I decided to become didactic and set up a scene where the extent of focus becomes immediately obvious and I have chosen to compare a couple of shots one on the left taken at f5.6 and the one on the right taken at my maximum aperture of f2.8, a couple of stops different.
You can see quite clearly which dominoes are in focus and this is also emphasised in the grain of the table top. With the maximum aperture only a couple of domino lengths are pin sharp whilst with the left-hand one you can see at least three dominoes length meaning that the whole of the horizontal crossbar is in focus. Even the unfocussed near and far dominoes can be read whilst on the right hand they are very fuzzy.
Any one for a game of dominoes !
