Variety is the spice of life
I've had a good break from Inspector Rebus. Since I finished The Naming of the Dead I have read both of Anne Bronte's excellent novels, How to be a Heroine by Samantha Ellis and Fish Boy by Chloe Daykin.
In the reading pile is another children's book Goldfish Boy and a biography of Anne Bronte. Now I just have to decide where next.
It's a lot of years since I read this and it's great to come back to it. Generally underrated by comparison with her sisters' work, it is an uncompromising appraisal of the position of married women in Victorian society and the horrors of being stuck in a marriage to a wrong 'un. Finished it this afternoon.
In other news we did a bit of shopping this morning and bought a bench for the allotment. Mr EAnn went down to the allotment to assemble it this afternoon. I stayed in with Anne and a bit of a cough.
