Tree stumps
The local council has determined that many of the trees lining our road are dead, dying or diseased and that they need to be removed. Over the last few days, a couple of dozen trees have been reduced to the stumps you see here.
This is very sad for the residents of the street. One of the most delightful features of the road has been the display of cherry blossom on the mature trees lining the road during March or April. (You can see what it used to look like here.) I have to acknowledge that the council do a good job of maintaining the trees - and they say that they do plan to replace as many of them as possible - but it will take years, decades even, for the road to return to its former glory.
