Goodbye Uist
Despite the appalling weather conditions this morning, we ventured out and it cleared by lunchtime.
We explored as far as South Uist and ate our lunch at the beach near Ormacleit Castle. Meandering back slowly, we stopped at RSPB Balranald and had a good walk along the headland. Not many bird species visible here but during the day we'd spotted some Great Northern Divers, Lapwings, Plovers and Whimbrel, in addition to the usual sea birds.
We also found some beautiful waterlogged ponies and when we wound the window down, one stuck his head into the car! Sadly I didn't have the right lens on.
A ridiculously early start tomorrow, as we have to be at the ferry by 6.30am. Our first leg of the journey will be to Skye, then the 11 hour drive south. Don't want to leave :(
