Meditating cow

After walking the dogs (which was a bit tricky as Basil wasn't really in the mood for it today and ended up being carried for the first stretch), we headed over to Pulborough Brooks for an afternoon stroll and some time sitting in hides. I always find hide etiquette challenging as everyone is always so quiet and serious and the harder I try to be quiet and serious, the noisier and sillier I seem to be. However, we got to watch - and listen to -some lapwings, which was good and one of the real birders, who was perched next to me in one of the hides, let me look through her spotter-thing at a distant little egret. It felt like being accepted into the birding community! All the other visitors today, without exception, were retired couples, which makes sense on a term-time week day, I guess. It was a lovely day for it though and, although we didn't see any adders basking in the sun, the highland cattle were.

Off out for a pub meal with my school friends tonight :)
