Spiky Sunday Spider

I have just been up to the allotment to pick the raspberries and came across this fellow with a big white cross on his back. He is very hairy with little spikes all over his body. Can anyone identify him?
Spiders in the house send me running out of the room but out in the garden I find them fascinating. Do I need psychoanalyzing ?
