Burr.....
.....and I don't mean the temperature. I picked these burrs when Tom and I were walking yesterday, and blipped them today. Close up, they don't look anything like they do when you look at them on a bush where they're all in clusters of little balls. You probably know this, but these burrs are how velcro came to be made. A Swiss engineer was trying to come up with a new way to fasten things, but wasn't having much luck until he was out walking one day and noticed that he had burrs stuck to his clothing. He took them home with him and when he looked at them under a microscope he noticed that there were little "hooks" on the ends of each of the barbs which is why they attach themselves so easily. He started to experiment, and his "velcro" really took off when NASA contacted him to use it on their Apollo Mission to deep things from floating around inside the space capsule, as well as to fasten the spacesuits closed. Amazing! :))
