Five Years
Last night I was at a one-off showing of the film of David Bowie's 1973 Ziggy Stardust concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, which was marvellous, and a top experience to see it in a cinema with none of the usual distractions (apart from popcorn and pop), plus surround sound and spontaneous applause and dancing in the audience.
So today I'm playing the Ziggy Stardust LP which belonged to my Mum. It says on the sleeve "To be played at maximum volume", but we've got neighbours.
We saw him play 10 years after that final Ziggy concert at the MK Bowl (Serious Moonlight and all that) when she noted that by then she and he had developed the same white-haired coiffure, albeit by different means. When somebody asked her what she was doing there (uncalled for, she was about the same age that I am now) she replied "Well, he's the best there is isn't he?" and that was that.
My Mum passed away on 8th March 2012. "Five years, what a surprise".
