Cross roads

This building has been at the central cross roads in Leatherhead since about 1600. When I first knew it in about 1960 it housed a wonderful haberdashers where you could buy anything from a reel of cotton to a knitting pattern. For most of the time since then it has been an estate agents. This is the only original building at the cross roads and the junction has been opened out, with the ugly building in the distance replacing an old coaching inn. There are plans now to alter the area again, hopefully to revive thus struggling town.
We were in Leatherhead today for Normous to visit the jewellers. Last week he discovered he had lost his wedding ring, probably while gardening. A massive search operation followed which even included him emptying the green garden refuse bin onto the garage floor and searching through the debris. All to no avail, so he got a quote for insurance purposes today, and now the sum has been agreed he will go ahead and buy a new ring. It will cost a great deal more than the original bought nearly fifty-five years ago.
