day 2

Our first night in the hospital went well. I was feeling brilliant and couldn't stop looking at Marius.

I forgot to say in yesterday's post that he was born at 3kg 290g (7lbs 2oz) and 48cm long although Pierre's convinced he's a little longer.

The midwife came round in the morning to check on me. Then another assistant came to check on Marius and get him bathed in time for the paediatrician coming to visit :) She showed us a great trick of wrapping Marius in a towel before putting him in the water. It means he feels more secure and he went from a screaming baby to a very relaxed wee boy when he was put in the water :)

The paediatrician came to do the routine checks - including a couple of reflex tests that had us gasping! He got Marius to grasp each of his index fingers, then he lifted them up and Marius clung on so tightly that the doctor was able to lift him right off the changing mat! Like a little monkey! Incredible. He also held Marius upright and touched his feet to the end of the changing mat to which Marius proceeded to step up onto the mat!

Annie and Daniel called to see us again today. They brought me some delicious St Marcellin cheese which I'd been dreaming about throughout my pregnancy! :)

We are due to stay in the hospital for around 4 days. Pierre, luckily, can stay with me which is great! Although the poor thing has to sleep on a fold-down chair!
