Plum season
R had to drive 10 miles to find me these (thanks!) but they are well worth it.
I really don't understand why fruit and vegetable in supermarkets is so bad in the UK - it isn't in supermarkets on the continent! But here, it doesn't matter what is in season, you find the same generic bland industrial varieties in store. The ones available all year and uninspiring all year.
Never mind that there are people growing wonderful fruit in the UK, we get bad plums from Chile. Never mind that in Italy and Spain tomatoes are wonderful, they send us the bland tasteless ones (hey, our supermarkets buy them).
Increasingly even the greengrocers just go to the cash and carry and sell the same stuff.
Depressing.
So we drive 10 miles to buy from people who have real fruit, when we find them
