Giant-scale model aircraft show
Saturday
First thing this morning, I was looking through the e-mail I get from Ohio Magazine, about different events occurring around the state, trying to come up with something different for the three of us to do today. I came across a Giant- scale radio-controlled aircraft show at the National Air force Museum up in Dayton. The museum also has an IMAX theater, so there was also something to do in case it rained. We were supposed to be getting the remnants of Hurricane Isaac this weekend, though it sounded as if the main rain wouldn't reach us until at least this evening. It is now late evening, and as I type, we still have had no rain, other than a little spotty drizzle mid afternoon for about five minutes. It was a really great event - and it was free - even better! There were various sorts of planes, from bi-planes and warbirds to helicopters and jet-powered aircraft, which were travelling at almost 200mph! Some of the planes were performing amazing aerobatic displays, sometimes very low to the ground - requiring a lot of skill and control. One of the "pilots" was a 12-year old boy - and he was amazing! We watched for a couple of hours, then treated ourselves to a drink and a sandwich, then there was an opportunity to go out on the runway and see all the models up close. By this time it was mid-afternoon, and we decided to go across to the museum and watch the IMAX movie Air Racers, about the Reno National Championship Air Races. A fun day! I have put more pictures from the day in a Smugmug gallery.
One year ago: Beautiful show
