Male cicadas sing,
A deafening symphony,
Attracting a mate.


At the moment there is a constant loud, loud chirping of cicadas here during the daylight hours. After living as a nymph underground for some 5 years they hatch and live for 2 - 4 weeks. During this time the males create their music as they try to attract the females. This year the level of the noise is amazing.
