This morning I attended a class open to the community at the Sarasota Police Department to learn more about the use of force in police activities.  There must have been about 30 police officers there as well, including this group of newly hired officers.  The police department has hired 40 new officers in the past year or so and had 700 applicants for the positions.  So I told these 6 that they must be the cream of the crop!!    I  approached this group asking if I could take a shot of the "babies"......one of the women rolled her eyes but the rest of them laughed!   They all looked like babies to me!!!  :)

The use of force simulator was amazing and a great experience for citizens.  We were able to see first hand what it's like to make split second decisions, in a most stressful moment.  The outcome could be life or death for all concerned. 

In Sarasota in 2016 there were approximately 81,000 calls for service, 4,000 people were taken into custody and only 163 required the use of force.
