The Black Bull of Bowsden
The bus I've been catching to and from Berwick each day doesn't go by the most direct route - it calls into two villages, Bowsden and Lowick, on the way. In Bowsden is a building (now a private house, I think) that used to be a pub - the Black Bull - and at each end is a carved wooden pub sign.
There are numerous pubs called the Black Bull, each with a pub sign, and of all those I've seen this is my favourite sign. Not the traditional, heavy black bull, standing in a field looking surly. This bull looks to be jauntily trotting along in a field near the top of snow-capped peaks under a starry sky! Maybe the peaks are someone's representation of the Cheviot during a hard winter?
Another short day in the office - very good to see J again! Supermarket shop in the evening and the customary meal at Carlo's, then home to relax in front of the TV (Men in Black 3) with MrM and a tankard glass of good, still cider.
