Cambo

Today we headed south to Fife, to Cambo Estate first and then to stay the night at Kilconquar.

We were at Cambo estate to see the snowdrops, of which there are many thousands. The second photograph gives an idea. On arrival we found the car park was closed for some reason. We were told to park on a grass verge, my car has very little ground clearance, and it grounded as we attempted to park. This did not sound very good and was not a good start.

As it was lunch time we decided to have something to eat. Although the salad roll I had was nice, there was no heating in the cafe, so not too relaxing. We embarked on our walk, and we had quite a long walk despite it starting to rain as we set out. We made it as far as the sea before turning round and heading back towards where I had left the car. I was a bit worried about getting stuck in the mud due to the rain.

The car made it out of the grass, though I had to find somewhere I could get on to the drive without bottoming the car again, I had to wait until somebody moved to create a gap at a spot which was fairly flat. We then headed over to the Kingsbarns Distillery on the edge of the estate.

This is a new distillery, opened in 2014, though the first barrel was not filled until 2015. Somewhat to our relief it had a warm and pleasant cafeteria, where we could have a coffee in comfort. We took the refinery tour, but we are unable to sample the produce of the distillery as whisky must mature in the barrel for three years. Maybe we will return in late 2018 to try a sample.

Finally we went over to Kilconquar to check in to our hotel and to have dinner. A good day despite the weather and the misadventure with the parking.
