Catching the Sun: Potential

Up until yesterday simply getting a photo on my sunrise walks was good enough. Now I think it's time to learn more about photography and using the camera. Where to begin?  This lane is a beautiful lane. I'm thinking of using it as a practice spot and trying out different settings. 

I would love to know how  you started getting to grips with photography
