Fritz Walter

No fancy steam trains in Kaiserslautern, but I spotted the Fritz Walter train on the opposite track.

Fritz Walter (31 October 1920 – 17 June 2002) was a German footballer. In his time with our national team, he made 61 caps and scored 33 goals. He usually played as an attacking midfielder or inside forward.
He was captain of the West German team that won their first World Cup in 1954. He and his brother, Ottmar Walter, became the first brothers to play in a World Cup winning team (source: Wikipedia).

Both Fritz and Ottmar Walter, Werner Liebrich, Werner Kohlmeyer and Horst Eckel from the 1954 team came from the 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the city is very proud of them.

Fritz Walter's last resting place is at the Kaiserslautern main cemetery.
