Did you know?
So, today I learned a semi-useless but somewhat interesting fact; the ampersand used to be the 27th character of the alphabet. S'true. Back in the 1800s, it was the last letter, but given its meaning, it was clearly a little confusing to recite the alphabet finishing with X Y Z and. So it was said as X Y Z and per se and. 'Per se' meaning on it's own. Over time, we got lazy with our pronunciation, hence 'ampersand'.
