Penicuik from Uttershill.

I’ve known for many years that Uttershill Castle was here, but never actually cast eyes on it until today; there’s nothing much of it, being the size of a small house with more scaffolding around it than there is remaining masonry. However, it does command a magnificent view over Penicuik to the west and the Pentland Hills, and to Valleyfield housing estate (site of the first paper mill in the town) to the north.
 
It’s a very handy Blip site, a five mile cycle from our front door and a fifty yard walk over rough ground to the building itself on the top of a mound, and there are several suitable pictures. I’ll be back – as the saying goes.
