YMCA (The Young Mens Christian Association) The purpose of which was 'the improvement of the spiritual and mental condition of young men.
St. George's Building covered in brown and buff terracotta and with St. George himself above the entrance, was designed by the architectural practice of Woodhouse, Corbett & Dean and completed in 1911.
This was the Manchester YMCA building and was equipped with a running track, gymnasium and swimming pool. Developments in reinforced concrete made it possible to locate the swimming pool near the top of the building.
St Georges House is now an office building and the YMCA has relocated to Castlefield. All remmnents of the facilities were removed in the renovation.
