Istanbul's Gece condos ("night houses")

After school and Department Heads Committee, I enjoyed a post meeting "therapy" session (rant) with Alison at her house. No, not the one pictured!  The pic was taken on the way - and is one of the thousands of 'gece condos' in Istanbul - illegally built homes that are built almost literally 'overnight' that once there, give squatters rights to the inhabitants, even though they don't own the land, so that local government are then legally obliged to provide mains water, waste disposal and electricity.   The government is gradually pulling them all down and replacing with apartment blocks, the people who lose their homes, invariably the poorest folk, are given one of the new apartments to live in.
