F is for Fire for MonoMonday
This is the old fire station in my hometown of Wilson, NC. I was in town today for a dental visit, followed by photos and lunch at a favorite BBQ restaurant. This fire station was abandoned in 1985 and sits empty now. The upstairs is were the firemen slept. The metal pole that gave the firemen quick access to the trucks by sliding down the pole was in the middle of the building. They showed it to us on school tours. I copied the extra photo from a historical website showing how the station looked many years ago. The first paid fireman was employed in 1914. This building was built in 1926 after a fire destroyed the previous one. The extra photo is a small one I copied from a historical website that shows the station as it was years ago. Sorry the extra is small, but in large (still small) you can see the narrow old tires on the trucks.
