Another Full Moon

The first time I remember hearing the term "Once In A Blue Moon," was probably from my mother when I was very young. She was a great one for little sayings. Back then, I really thought that the moon turned blue, and since that is my favorite color, I couldn't wait to see one.

Years later, when the shipwrecked cast of "Gilligan's Island" was trying to get rescued...again, Ginger, in a rare moment as a gypsy fortune teller, tells them that they will be rescued when "The Moon Is Blue." Sure enough, they miss another chance at being saved, but the moon really turned blue as a shipped passed by their "Uncharted Desert Isle." I was astounded! Why had I never seen this blue moon in person?

As it turns out, the moon doesn't turn blue, and a blue moon is simply a second full moon appearing in a 30 day lunar cycle. Bummer.

Tonight, the last blue moon until 2015 has graced our skies. Fortunately, it was a clear night here in New Jersey. I did not have the ability to turn it blue for you, but I managed to enhance the sky and moon halo for your pleasure.
