Rocky Mountain Moments

St. Vrain Greenway

In September of 2013 there was significant flooding along the front range of the Rockies.  This trail was under several feet of water and most of the bridges and large sections of the trail were washed out.  The section where Piper and I walked today had been inaccessible since then until a few months ago.  So now the whole trail is finally connected again with no gaps.  It follows the St. Vrain River for about 10 miles and is mostly paved.  People use it for biking, skating and walking so it was sorely missed.  This view features part of the river and trail and Mt. Meeker, Long Peak and Mt. Lady Washington in the distance.  They are about 35 miles west in Rocky Mountain National Park.  There will be more water in the river as soon as the mountain snow starts melting but the river bed is so wide since the flood that it never seems very full anymore.  As you can see, most of the snow from a few days ago is gone.  It was still jacket weather but a really beautiful day. :-)
