Kinkajou or Olingo
We went hiking in Monteverde all day today - with a stop for lunch (delicious pizza!) in the middle. The morning featured a lot of lovely birds, including the Resplendent Quetzal. The afternoon was really slow and we were seeing next to nothing until all of a sudden our faithful and marvelous guide, Mario, said "KINKAJOU!" Well. Apparently a Kinkajou is usually only found on night hikes with the aid of a flashlight. But this one was dashing along in the trees over head, leaping from branch to branch. They look something like a lemur, but they are not primates. They are related to the raccoon, apparently. See this. Our afternoon was well and truly made!
Edit: Our kinkajou might well be an Olingo. We are unsure. Whatever it was, none of us had ever seen one before, so we're happy.
