Lily Cole, Damon Albarn and Mariella Frostrup join Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and 10,000 activists supporting Iranian director boycotting the Oscars over Trump's travel ban.

"President Trump can't silence me. My name is Sadiq Khan, I am the mayor of London." The director, Asghar Farhadi, cannot attend the Oscars today due to travel ban on Iran. In protest the Mayor of London organised the premiere of Farhadi's movie in Trafalgar Square followed by a performance by a Syrian band. #LondonIsOpen.

Lily Cole. She said: ‘We are here to say what alternatives are possible, we are here to demonstrate that alternatives are possible and why things like the Trump ban are unnecessary in this day and age, because London is wonderfully open. The travel ban is unnecessary in this day and age’.

Mike Leigh, the many-times Oscar-nominated British director, hailed Farhadi as "the master" for filmmakers like him "who make films about real people and issues".

"Our protest is of course against Donald Trump’s cynical, divisive and destructive policies, especially his unforgivable travel ban," Leigh told the London crowd.

Singer-songwriter and record producer Damon Albarn played with the Syrian band.

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, 37, star of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Sherlock Holmes, donned a fur-trimmed coat and sunglasses on stage.
