Little Bird on a Big Branch

I am charmed by American Goldfinches, and love the way their markings differ according to gender, time of year, etc.  This looks like a female to me, but whether it's breeding or not doesn't seem to match any of the pictures in my bird book.  That's a lesson for another day.
