Haydock

I can't remember at what age I started doing a paper round or, indeed, when I stopped. I think it was my classmate, Jon Gaby, who got me the job. The fact we had to get the bus for school at seven-thirty - after that the 213A was packed and you couldn't get on - meant that I had to get up at a quarter to six every morning, come rain and shine, to do my job.

One legacy of that is that whenever I need to make an early start, I can console myself with the thought that at least I haven't got to get on my bike and go and deliver a lot of newspapers. (It was like slave labour, except with a bit of pay (obvs). At one point my round was extended but there was no talk of more money.)

So, in comparison with the above, this morning's quarter to six start wasn't so bad. Coffee, shower and shave, second coffee, and then drive down to Haydock, nice and snug in my car, and set up our stand for a conference we were sponsoring. It was a pretty quiet day, really; the delegates were only out for two fifteen minute breaks and an hour for lunch.

Although I don't really ever post in any detail about work, I did take a photo of the stand to put up this evening, but when I came to look on my phone, I couldn't find it :-/

So, I nipped downstairs and took a photo of this bottle of Prosecco, which the Minx and I dispatched earlier on. Not that there was anything specific from today's conference to celebrate (at least, not yet) but sometimes it's just nice to raise a glass to life.
