New flint and brick
Flint has been used in building since at least the Roman era and in the counties of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, where there are areas of flint in the soil, old flint and brick houses can still be seen in many of the villages. This building technique was a real skill and very time consuming and so today the builders have it easy by buying already made blocks of flint which they bond together. In comparison, side by side, the new isn't a patch on the old but it still has some charm.
We went to visit this new house in Cattistock this afternoon which a friend had built.
