Behind Christchurch

As always, what you see on television or in the newspaper cannot express the scale and horror of disaster.

When I picked Sebastian up from his house this evening I went just a little further up the road for this photo.  No wonder their road was evacuated!

It boggles the mind that they were able to save those houses and the stands of trees within the scale of the whole fire. 

Although there are none in this photo, the helicopters were still buzzing about dangling monsoon buckets, continuing to keep an eye on hotspots.
