Skegness in the eye of Storm Doris
Worked in Skegness today. Put every delaying tactic into play that I could. I knew it was going to be a strange day and I wanted to hold it off for as long as I could. A duvet day would have been nice but impossible.
Parked in the car park on the sea front and decided to go on the beach to get some beach shots and see how windy it way. It took your breath away but was only the start of the storm which would see wind speeds of up to 50 mph and gusts of over 70 mph predicted before the day was through.
Work was actually lovely. We had to tell the young people about the death of our colleague. They were obviously very sad but gave a wonderful testimony to his professionalism, as they stated that had no idea that he was ill as he always seemed to be his cheerful, funny self, and always had the time to listen to them. I felt very humbled.
Very loud music played, the soundtrack to a film that holds a lot of memories for us, but was really catchy and had everyone singing whilst they took part in the other activities going on. We've ended up with a beautiful display of fish behind the glass windows to the office that look like they are in an aquarium and can be appreciated from both sides of the glass.
The day I was dreading was strange, the atmosphere wasn't right due to the adverse weather, and being in the this particular building knowing that our buddy wasn't going to arrive and try to convince us to have chicken and chips for lunch. It was strange but oddly comforting. I love young people, they put everything into perspective without even knowing it.
