A Monarch Butterfly emerges from its chrysalis to start its new life as a magnificent butterfly.

The main photo shows details of the colour and patterns of the crumpled wings. Moments later the transparent shell of the chrysalis splits and the ‘birth’ of the butterfly begins.

5 - wings fully extended. Now they need to dry before flight is possible.

Once the wings were spread I could see the black spot on each wing allowing easy identification of this male butterfly.

I appreciate the visits, comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s coastal scene at Marahau, NZ. The view from this causeway walkway to the start of the Abel Tasman Coastal walk constantly changes, but it’s always interesting.
