Paralympic fun and games
Sorry, Paralympians, your Games are rather late.
It's now the end of August and the bunting's in a state.
It got washed out with the Jubilee, and when the Queen was done
Along came the Olympics with their fading golden sun.
But we've tried our best, as you can see, to keep the junkyard bright,
Like you we'll fly the flag and not give up without a fight.
The bunting manufacturers were caught out by the boom,
They have, we hear, retired to a cool and darkened room,
Besides which money's tight, you know, austerity's to stay
And we don't encourage visitors, they just get in the way.
But earlier bunting decks the gate and main shed architrave
To applaud you and salute you as the bravest of the brave.
Don't know what it's like round you, but round here there seems to be a heck of a lot of this stuff well past its sell-by date. Opposite my mum's house the road is strung with it, but I found this lot on my morning walk which today took me past a local farmer's junkyard. The notice says they sell hay and logs, but the gate is always padlocked - and festooned with bunting!
