Island Queen

8.2C with squally showers and bright spells between. WNW/W wind to 26 mph with gusts to 41 mph.

Maeve the Deerhound was up at 4am. The wind was gusting to 46 mph so she might have been disturbed again. We went for a very short walk. Then back to bed! I took her out again at 8am.

A quiet morning while we decided if we could be bothered going for a walk in the showery weather.

We went to Glenbarr for lunch then we chose not to go to Westport beach but to drive up to Tayinloan so we could have a walk on the beach with Maeve if we were lucky to get a break in the showers. The ferry to Gigha was just getting ready to set off as we were starting off along the beach. A grand total of three cars had gone aboard for the short crossing.

This was our second visit of the year to the wreck of the Island Queen. I have tried to capture the decay in the superstructure this time. Just behind the foredeck there is little left intact. The hull, on the other hand, still looks remarkably sound. The high tides have deposited lots of seaweed right against the keel but the boat doesn't seem to have moved since we last saw her. We were heading off further up the beach when we noticed a squall coming in over Gigha so we went back to the car instead. The rain came on before we made it back but it wasn't too heavy.
