Down on the farm
We are now staying in an area l have never been to before, the north west of South Island. This is a decidedly rural area, not too easy to get to. We travelled over gravel roads with instructions such as "2 km after you have passed Mangarakau which is defined by 1.5km of tar-seal, turn left at the brown letterbox" (there is absolutely nothing else to Mangarakau but the tarseal). Anyhow beautiful scenery, although quite a challenging road.
We are staying in splendid Isolation in a chalet a bit like an upturned boat, deep silence other than the wall of sound made by cicadas.
We are out on the west coast here so quite wild beaches, quite often we were the only people on miles of beach with just sheep for company. The blip for today is a sheep farm we passed where they had just been sorting the sheep, the extra is the beach.
