He dedicated his life to Peace.

The rain held off today and my daughter and I hiked Tapovan Sri Chinmony Park on Galiano for a couple of hours. A long climb was rewarded with beautiful views and more trails. Here is his history.

The Tapovan Sri Chinmoy Peace Park is a 200-acre privately owned park honouring Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) and his ever-lasting dream of peace. Some of his immortal messages are displayed on plaques along the trails. Sri Chinmoy dedicated his entire life to fostering good will and harmony in the world. His prayers and meditations, literary, musical and artistic works and athletic achievements, were all invocations of peace. Sri Chinmoy believed that the foundation for lasting peace lies within us.

Born Chinmoy Kumar Ghose in the small village of Shakpura in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) in 1931, Sri Chinmoy lived til 2007. He moved to New York City in 1964, bringing his significant years of spiritual practice to the West. He frequently travelled throughout the world to offer free concerts, lectures and public meditations, to meet with his students, and to meet and discuss spirituality with world and community leaders.  Sri Chinmoy's life was an expression of boundless creativity. His vast output spans the domains of music, poetry, painting, literature and sports. His contributions in each of these fields have been striking and far-reaching.
