Hawk: check

Nest: nope.
This will be the 5th year that I've followed a pair of red tailed hawks and their nest. I drove by today on my way home from WV and saw one hawk in the nest tree and one in a tree across the road - but no trace of the nest. It took me a second to realize what I wasn't seeing. It's hard to believe that such a big nest would just disappear without any visible damage to the tree, but it's so high up it's also hard to believe anyone could tamper with it. I'm hoping that they were both there rebuilding - fingers crossed.
The good news is that the bald eagles are back in their nest - I saw one on the nest and one in a nearby tree. And as I was driving between the eagles and the hawks, I saw a large flock of snow geese who kept landing and then taking off again - I had no idea what was going on until I saw a juvenile bald eagle flying over them. And since this was only a mile away from the nest, maybe this is last year's baby?
I saw 19 hawks, 3 bald eagles and thousands of snow geese in the 200 miles of my drive home - that's going to be hard to top.
