Wanderer above the Sea of Fog*
Blimey what a day. Thick mist first thing but the forecast looked good so we headed off to the MIzen Peninsula. First stop Ballyrisode beach where another swim was taken - one of us was in a lot longer than the other (thanks for the hilarious comments from yesterday!) On for lunch al fresco at Crookhaven - glass of Guinness and cheese and tomato toasties; then up to Brow Head, amazing haar going on below, Galley Head merging from the mist like Avalon (see extra). We met the landowner at the top and stopped for a chat for last summer Brow Head had been overrun with film crew as the latest Star Wars was shot here - well probably about three minutes of it. He gave us inside gossip and showed us the old house that had been used for makeup and wigs! This is a wild and beautiful headland - we walked to to the end where the cliffs are spectacular, passing a signal tower, a WW2 lookout thingy, the remains of the earliest Marconi station, some ruined miners' cottages and the mine owner's posher house. The views were sublime. We even managed a quick yomp on Barley Cove on our way home - a lone kayaker tackling the large waves and just a handful of us on the spectacular beach.
Now seriously wrecked and son#1 is rustling up a curry. Mmmmm.
And happy first anniversary to the new Blipfoto - and many thanks to the hardworking Fab Four, delighted to still be here :)
Thanks to Gennepher for the link to this: Wanderer above the sea of fog, perfect, I've changed my title
