Oranges are the only fruit
Well, there are a few lemons too. Virtually the first thing we saw after stepping off the bus in Seville was these municipal workers knocking oranges off the trees and lobbing them into large bins (see extra). Quintessential Seville!
We have been to Seville before but only for a few hours while waiting for a plane. It was essential to visit again before we go home, so we've booked into an AirBnB room for the weekend. It had been a 3-hour bus journey, so once we'd dropped our stuff and met our host and her cats, we took her advice and headed to the nearby Alameda square for drinks and a couple tapas in the sunshine, to stave off our hunger.
On the way there we'd passed a cinema with the programmes for it and the others in the group, one of which specialised in subtitled films. This one was showing Lion, an Australian film several people had recommended to S, at 6 pm, and was only a short walk away, so we quickly nipped back to get our coats and then walked down there.
Ohhh, what a tear-jerker! Based on a true story, with a happy ending; we enjoyed it. Afterwards we wandered slowly back homewards looking out for somewhere to eat, and ended up in a large bar/tavern just off the main shopping street. It was obviously touristy, but a great place for people-watching. And, thanks to the patio heaters, we could sit comfortably outdoors after dark on a February evening. The tables filled a pedestrianised side street, and it was packed with a mixture of locals and tourists. The many waiters cruised like sharks, never stopping. We had a leisurely couple of glasses of wine and a racion of pork between us while enjoying the buzz. See a view of it here. And spare blip here. I think we are going to like Seville.
