Was It Really So Long Ago

We asked the girls what they'd like to do today. The only answer came from our elder daughter, who expressed a preference for the Sea Life Sanctuary in Hunstanton. They both enjoyed it, in particular, the rescued seals, recuperating in the hospital pens. I spotted a windmill at Great Bircham which we could visit on the way home. A windmill I last visited approaching 20 years ago. At the time, I was surprised that visitors were allowed to clamber over the mill unescorted, unaided, right up to the top cap and out onto the platform by the fantail. Surely health and safety had put a stop to that by now. There's very little room at the top of a windmill and with the mechanism moving too, I was amazed that you can still go right to the top, which we had to do of course, on the basis that a big tall thing in the middle of flat countryside must be climbed because it is there.

Back in the mid-1990's a similar picture was taken of me in a very similar spot, on the verandah of this windmill, the aim here was to to repeat that shot (I'll share the original with you perhaps by back blip, but I couldn't be sure of the date).

By the way, the slightly less than relaxed pose was due to me being able to see to the ground through the gaps between the boards of the verandah (always unnerving). Ah yes, the force 9 gale didn't help either.

The cream teas and children's baking corner were popular. The girls made their own mini loaves, they were then baked in the oven and eaten for their tea.

Home tomorrow, then P A R A L Y M P I C S on Sunday!!!!
