Visiting at Puntala today in a meet and at the same looking for some local geocaches. This lion figure is one of many other animals which have been set up for short nature trail made as a memory of Elvi The Lion. Story behind this memorial track is that on 23.6.1992 one forester claimed to observe a lion 20 meters from his timberjack when he was harvesting a pine wood. He told to have direct eye to eye contact for 40 seconds with a lion. A forester was also well known and experienced hunter. No one does not know for sure if it really was a lion, but couple of weeks before this encounter there has been a train accident at Russia near the border where was transported circus animals. Some of animals died in the accident but some of those manage to runaway. Puntala is only 10 km's from border zone, hence it could be possible that it really was a lion. Several local people were also observed unusual big footprints on different places near the border zone and some experts confirmed those really being lions foot prints. However, after the first eye contact of the forester anyone has not got visual contact to lion, but the legend still lives and therefore local salmon cafe owner built this memorial nature trail for the lion and one geocacher added four caches. No matter what the real case is, but great story anyway.
