Athlete wrestling with a snake

For various reasons I found myself in London for the afternoon with nothing to do. So I thought I'd pop into the Tate Britain to have a wander around.

I have to admit I do prefer the Tate Modern, but every time I visit here I find one or two pieces that really capture my imagination - and the building is stunning. I'm really looking forward to seeing what it's like when the renovation is complete.

This statue was today's attention grabber. It had the following information attached to it:

Frederic Leighton 1830-1896
An Athlete Wrestling with a Python 1877
Bronze.

The two ladies in the background were very apologetic about getting in the way, but personally I think they add a depth that it would have lacked otherwise.
