Retiral

Last day at work for the thoroughly decent and much respected Alistair Brown. A 42 year career from computer programmer to creating the parliament and delivering the first Scottish tax system in 300 years. Everyone had a good tale of his kind support and hard work, and overall inspiring leadership. Had a knack of asking the right, if sometimes difficult questions. (I had the honour of showing him 'the internet' 22 years ago, when it was a dialup machine in the corner. He was head of IT at the time, and correctly asked what it was for in a practical sense. )Proof of his ability to engage was that at his retiral event he was asking questions of those that were there about their interests and families, hundreds of them, many of whom he may have not met in years. It was almost the living embodiment of How To Win Friends and Influence People. He'll be missed.
