Twilight at the Botainc Gardens
I spoke a few days ago about an outreach event at the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge tonight. Between 4.30pm and 7.30pm the glasshouses were open to the public for free. The children were given torches and fairy lights were placed everywhere. My job was to talk about a plant called the Dutchman's pipe (which is very interesting) and give children a stamp to add to their paper as they walked around.
It was fantastic to see so many children engaging with plants and having a wonderful time. A lot of the children knew so much about plants already and it was really great to be able to listen to them tell me what they know. However, it was incredibly exhausting with over 1300 people attending, so I am glad to be back in my room now!
I didn't manage to take any photos of the actual event as it was too dark, so I have this one instead during the daytime tour all the volunteers were given to familiarise themselves with the greenhouses before the event. The theme was India and orchids!
Another exciting piece of news - it still has to be accepted but I have officially sent in my PhD project proposal :)
